Buenos Aires, capital of a growing country
The city of Buenos Aires is the capital of the Argentine Republic. Together with its metropolitan area (Gran Buenos Aires) it is the second biggest South American city and one of the major urban centers of the world.
The city is also the most important cultural center in Argentina and one of the most important in Latin America. The great cultural offer is represented by a large number of museums, theatres and libraries, being some of them the most important of the country. The academic activity also stands out because some of the most important Argentine universities have their seat in Buenos Aires. It must be emphasized the fact that the city had been chosen by the UNESCO as City of Design in 2005.
In 2004 the Producto Bruto Geográfico (PBG) (Geographical Gross Product) of Buenos Aires was approximately of $100,455 millions, equivalent to $36,185 per cápita. The sums of the construction boom are stronger every day
It grew, in June, 24.7% with regard to the same month last year, pushed by the public works and private projects. It is the highest rate since 1993. In that way, in the first semester of 2006 it accumulated a rise of 21.2% related to the same period in 2005.
The data has been supplied this afternoon by the INDEC. In accordance with the organism, the important growth in the year-on-year comparison was support by the public works, as well as the private projects on residences, tourism, industry and trade. The improvement, with regard to May, meanwhile, was of 2.5%.
